Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen announced her decision to terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Honduras, with a delayed effective date of 18 months, through Jan. 5, 2020. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status until the delayed effective date of the termination must re-register between June 5, 2018, and Aug. 6, 2018.

DHS is aware of the hardship and ongoing recovery efforts resulting from the recent flooding in areas such as Louisiana and Texas. Individuals from these affected areas who need to replace lost or damaged documents can find FEMA fact sheets for information on replacing lost or damaged documents in Louisiana or Texas.

Until further notice, employers should continue using Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. This current version of the form continues to be effective even after the Office of Management and Budget control number expiration date of March 31, 2016, has passed. USCIS will provide updated information about the new version of Form I-9 as it becomes available.

On Aug. 25, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. USCIS must publish a revised form by Nov. 22, 2016. Employers may continue using the current version of Form I-9 with a revision date of 03/08/2013 N until Jan. 21, 2017. After Jan. 21, 2017, all previous versions of Form I-9 will be invalid.

Liberian nationals covered under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) will have their employment authorization documents, which expire Sept. 30, 2016, automatically extended to be valid through March 31, 2017. For detailed information on how to complete or update Form I-9, please click here.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) benefits for beneficiaries of TPS under the designations of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were extended for 6 months for the purpose of orderly transition before the designations terminate on May 21, 2017. Current TPS beneficiaries will automatically retain their TPS and have the validity of their current Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) extended through May 20, 2017.

The Secretary of Homeland Security has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible nationals of Nepal (and those without nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) for an additional 18 months, from Dec. 25, 2016, through June 24, 2018. DHS is also automatically extending current TPS Nepal Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) with a Dec. 24, 2016, expiration date for 6 months. These existing EADs are now valid through June 24, 2017.

On Nov. 14, USCIS released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. Employers may continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 03/08/2013 N. through Jan. 21, 2017. By Jan. 22, 2017, employers must use the revised form. Employers should continue to follow existing storage and retentions rules for all of their previously completed Forms I-9.
