Temporary Protected Status Extension and Redesignation for Sudan
Thursday, Oct. 5, 2-3 p.m. Eastern
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites you to participate in an engagement on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Sudan on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern.
On Aug. 18, 2023, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas announced the extension and redesignation of Sudan for TPS for 18 months. The extension of TPS for Sudan allows current beneficiaries to retain TPS through April 19, 2025, if they meet eligibility requirements. The Secretary later extended the re-registration period for existing TPS beneficiaries under the Sudan extension beyond the Oct. 20, 2023 expiration date, noted in the Aug. 21, 2023 Federal Register notice, to April 19, 2025.
The redesignation allows Sudanese nationals (and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Sudan) who have continuously resided in the United States since Aug. 16, 2023, and have been continuously physically present in the United States since Oct. 20, 2023, to file initial applications for TPS, if they are otherwise eligible.
During this engagement, USCIS will provide an overview of the extension and redesignation of Sudan for TPS. We will then hold a question-and-answer session. We will not address case-specific questions, questions outside the scope of the engagement, or issues under active litigation.
