Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas rescinded the termination of the designation of Honduras for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and extended TPS for Honduras for 18 months, from Jan. 6, 2024, through July 5, 2025.  Individuals with a pending or approved TPS application may qualify for certain public benefits and REAL ID driver’s licenses and identification cards. When applying for a Federal, state, or local government benefit, individuals will need to provide a document showing they applied for or are beneficiaries of TPS for Honduras. They may provide a TPS Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with a category code of A12 or C19, or a copy of their Form I-797, Notice of Action, for a current Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. DHS previously automatically extended the validity of certain TPS-related documents issued under Honduras’ ongoing TPS designation through June 30, 2024, as specified in the November 2022 Federal Register notice.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas rescinded the termination of the designation of El Salvador for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and extended TPS for El Salvador for 18 months, from Sept. 10, 2023, through March 9, 2025.  Individuals with a pending or approved TPS application may qualify for certain public benefits and REAL ID driver’s licenses and identification cards. When applying for a Federal, state, or local government benefit, individuals will need to provide a document showing they applied for or are beneficiaries of TPS for El Salvador. They may provide a TPS Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with a category code of A12 or C19, or a copy of their Form I-797, Notice of Action, for a current Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. 

The additional verification response time for September 2023 is now about 20 federal workdays, an improvement from the about 36 federal workdays it averaged this time last year (September 2022). Response times vary depending upon the complexity of the case. Cases that require additional information or submission of a document may require additional time.

This announcement provides updated information about documentation and the SAVE verification process for individuals who are paroled into the United States under the modernized Cuban and Haitian Family Reunification Parole Processes, which permit nationals of these countries and their immediate family members to be paroled on a case-by-case basis for up to three years.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Sudan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, from Oct. 20, 2023, through April 19, 2025.   Individuals with a pending or approved TPS application may qualify for certain public benefits and REAL ID driver's licenses and identification cards.  When applying for a federal, state, or local government benefit, individuals will need to show a document proving they applied for or are beneficiaries of TPS for Sudan. They may provide a TPS Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with a category code of A12 or C19, or a copy of their Form I-797, Notice of Action, for a current Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status. Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended through Oct. 19, 2024, the validity of EADs with a Card Expires date of Oct. 19, 2023, issued under the prior TPS designation of Sudan. TPS Sudan applicants or beneficiaries presenting an auto-extended EAD do not need to show any other document, such as a Form I-797 or I-797C Notice of Action, to prove that they qualify for the EAD auto-extension.
