Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti for 18 months, from Feb. 4, 2023, through Aug. 3, 2024.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Yemen for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemen for 18 months, from March 3, 2023, through Sept. 3, 2024.  

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has designated Ethiopia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective Dec. 12, 2022, through June 12, 2024. Ethiopian nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Ethiopia may submit an initial registration application under the designation of Ethiopia for TPS and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) during the 18-month registration period that begins Dec. 12, 2022, and ends June 12, 2024.

USCIS recently announced that, effective Nov. 21, 2022, certain Ukrainian and Afghan parolees are employment authorized incident to their parole. This means that they do not need a Form I-766, Employment Authorization Document, to be employment authorized.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today published a Federal Register notice extending the validity of Temporary Protected Status (TPS)-related documentation for beneficiaries under the TPS designations for El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and under the 2011 designation of Haiti and the 2013 designation of Sudan provided they remain individually eligible for TPS.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended and redesignated Burma for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, from Nov. 26, 2022, through May 25, 2024.  

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela for 18 months, from Sept. 10, 2022, through March 10, 2024.  Individuals with a pending or approved TPS application may qualify for certain public benefits and REAL ID driver's licenses and identification cards. When applying for a Federal, state, or local government benefit, individuals will need to show a document proving they applied for or are beneficiaries of TPS for Venezuela. They may provide a TPS-based Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with a category code of A12 or C19, or a copy of their Form I-797, Notice of Action, for a current Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status.  Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended the validity of EADs issued under the prior TPS designation for Venezuela through Sept. 9, 2023. TPS for Venezuela applicants or beneficiaries presenting an auto-extended EAD do not need to show any other document, such as a Form I-797, Notice of Action, to prove that they qualify for the EAD auto-extension. SAVE will be able to verify an individual's TPS or pending TPS application (and any employment authorization, including any EAD auto-extension) using information from the documents noted above. In some instances, the benefit-granting agency may need to institute additional verification.

President Biden has issued a memorandum extending and expanding eligibility for Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians.  The president also directed the secretary of homeland security to provide eligible Liberians continued employment authorization through June 30, 2024.
